Give Your Referral Links a Makeover
Jun 28th, 2007 by Anthony
The problem with referral links are…..they look like referral links! You would be surprised just how many people are put off clicking referral links. So whats the solution?
You could goto a URL shortening service like TinyURL but even these services can lost you potential click-throughs. So here is my solution to giving your affiliate links a makeover.
We’re going to turn our referral urls from “http://www.mylot.com/?ref=ezybusiness” to “http://www.bloggingdosh.com/goto/MyLot”
There are a number of scripts available out there that can do this but I came across a really simple solution, Ultratrack. This script will not only convert your affiliate links into a more user friendly link, but will track how many clicks and unique visitors the link gets.
Heres How
- Download the Ultratrack Script Here
- Upload the “recommends” folder to your server. (I decided to change the name of “recommends” to “goto”
- Goto www.yoururl.com/reccomends/ and enter the admin password. Default password is “admin”
- Create a new campaign for your referral URL
- Thats It!

This is great and free way to give your links a little bit more of a professional touch. The script also gives you a conversion code which you can use to actually see how many people registered/bought your product, however you would need to be able to actually edit this conversion page which most affiliate programs don’t allow.
