Did you know that switching to your own domain (ie. .com, .org, .biz etc) can mean a big boost in earnings and even traffic.

Theres nothing wrong with starting a blog on a free subdomain like blogger or wordpress, in fact I even encourage it. But when it comes to getting that little bit extra out of your blog, traffic and earnings wise then its a good decision to register your own domain.

Having your own domain will open up a whole new world of earning opportunities. Take PayPerPost for example. Many of the high paying opportunities require that you own your own domain name. The same goes for many other programs as well.

Traffic wise, a custom domain will in most cases be easier to remember then a long subdomain. And don’t forget you will instantly have a more professional image!

Have you noticed an increase in traffic since you switched to the cashquests.com domain?

It’s difficult to say. My traffic comes from a lot of sources and it’s hard to know what affects traffic. They day I switched resulted in a huge spike, but that could be from RSS readers coming to the site to check out how it looks. At the same time, I also lost a bit of traffic as links on other sites didn’t point to me any more. All I can really say is that I haven’t *lost* any traffic.

Has this had an effect on your earnings?

Yes. A custom domain has a lot more credibility attached to it and my earnings have definitely increased.

Would you recommend new bloggers start out with their own custom domain?

That’s a difficult question. It depends on your goals for the site and how well you think you’ll achieve them. If you just want a personal site, there’s probably no need. But if you want to make money, it’s a good way to go. In the end, you can pick up a domain for around $6, so if you plan on making more than that, it’s worthwhile.

And Finally, Any regrets since the switch?
